1962 FORD GALAXIE 500 SUNLINER – History: Unveiled in the autumn of 1961 for the 1962 model year, the Ford Galaxie 500 Sunliner epitomised the top of the range in Ford’s American production line-up in the early 1960s. A true symbol of the post-war American car, it captivates with its generous dimensions, high standard of equipment and powerful V8 engines, offering an excellent balance between comfort and performance. The Sunliner version is the four-seater convertible in the Galaxie 500 range. Fitted with an electrically operated soft top, it allows drivers to fully enjoy open-top driving whilst retaining the handling qualities of a large American saloon. Available with a choice of V8 engines, the Galaxie 500 is now particularly sought after by enthusiasts of classic American cars for its iconic styling, robust engineering and the good availability of spare parts. Description: This 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 Sunliner is fitted with a 352 cubic inch (5,768 cm³) Ford V8 engine mated to an automatic gearbox. The vehicle has just been taken out of storage and comes with its Belgian registration documents. The documents match the manufacturer’s number. However, no stamped chassis number could be found during our inspection. The keys are present. The bodywork features the original paintwork, which is now heavily weathered. Numerous cosmetic defects are visible, and several areas of corrosion affect various bodywork components, notably the sills and wings. The underbody shows widespread corrosion affecting the chassis, the running gear and numerous mechanical parts. The bumpers, trim strips, wheel trims, wheels and other exterior fittings show significant oxidation. Overall, the exterior will require a complete restoration to return it to its original condition. The interior remains in a fair state of preservation. The two-tone red and white upholstery retains a satisfactory appearance with an even patina of wear.
