Description
1987 TOYOTA CELICA GT CONVERTIBLE – History: Unveiled in the mid-1980s, the fourth-generation Toyota Celica (code T160) marked a significant development in the model’s history. Moving away definitively from the rear-wheel-drive layout of its predecessors, it adopted a front-wheel-drive platform and a more modern design, characterised by the angular lines typical of its era. Available in several body styles, including an elegant convertible produced by American Sunroof Corporation (ASC) for certain markets, the Celica GT stands out for its superior level of equipment and sportier styling. Powered by a four-cylinder engine from Toyota’s ‘2T’ family, it offers an excellent balance between performance, reliability and driving pleasure. The Celica T160 is now recognised as one of the iconic Japanese sports cars of the late 1980s. Convertible versions remain relatively rare on the European market. Description: The vehicle on offer is a Toyota Celica GT Convertible, fitted with a manual gearbox. The vehicle is being presented straight from storage following a long period of inactivity. The bodywork appears largely intact but shows numerous signs of corrosion. The lower sections of the front wings, the sills, the door sills and the windscreen surrounds are affected by rust, with several visible perforations. Early signs of corrosion are also present in the engine compartment, particularly around the windscreen surround. The paintwork is heavily faded and the entire bodywork is covered in a thick layer of dust. The soft top is present but in very poor condition. The fabric is torn away at the front cross-member and several tears are visible. It will need to be replaced. The interior appears to be relatively complete and original. The front seats, rear bench seat, door panels, centre console, dashboard and instrument cluster are all present. The engine compartment is accessible. The vehicle is fitted with a 1,588 cm³ Toyota 2T engine, as stated on the manufacturer’s plate. The engine is complete but shows significant surface rust on many components. No attempt has been made to start the engine, and its mechanical condition must be regarded as unknown. The manufacturer’s plate is present and perfectly legible. The chassis number stamped on the firewall is also visible and matches that shown on the manufacturer’s plate. The odometer reads 118,247 km; mileage not guaranteed. The registration documents are missing.
