1948 FORD POPULAR 103E – History: Introduced in the late 1930s, the Ford Popular 103E was developed by Ford of Britain to offer a simple, robust and economical car. Based on the Ford 8 (Model Y), it was fitted with a 933 cm³ four-cylinder side-valve engine producing around 30 ch. Produced between 1937 and 1949, with a hiatus during the Second World War, the Popular enjoyed considerable success in the United Kingdom and across several European countries. Its particularly simple design and reputedly reliable mechanics made it one of the most iconic British mass-market cars of its era. Description: The car on display is a Ford Popular 103E, fitted with a manual gearbox. The vehicle has been taken out of storage after a very long period of inactivity. The bodywork appears to be largely complete and retains its original appearance. The blue paintwork is old, heavily faded and covered in a thick layer of dust. Traces of corrosion are visible on several body panels. The engine compartment is particularly complete and appears to retain most of its original components.
