Description
1948 FORD POPULAR 103E – History: Introduced in the late 1930s, the Ford Popular 103E was developed by Ford of Britain to offer a simple, robust and economical car. Based on the Ford 8 (Model Y), it was fitted with a 933 cm³ four-cylinder side-valve engine producing around 30 ch. Produced between 1937 and 1949, with a hiatus during the Second World War, the Popular enjoyed considerable success in the United Kingdom and across several European countries. Its particularly simple design and reputedly reliable mechanics made it one of the most iconic British mass-market cars of its era. Description: The car on display is a Ford Popular 103E, fitted with a manual gearbox. The vehicle has been taken out of storage after a very long period of inactivity. The bodywork appears to be largely complete and retains its original appearance. The blue paintwork is old, heavily faded and covered in a thick layer of dust. Traces of corrosion are visible on several body panels. The engine compartment is particularly complete and appears to retain most of its original components. It is fitted with a Ford 103E engine, as indicated on the manufacturer’s plate. The engine block shows significant surface oxidation due to prolonged inactivity. The radiator is in place, as are the alternator, distributor, starter motor, ignition coil and the main mechanical accessories. The carburettor is present but incomplete, as its top cover has been removed. No attempt has been made to start the engine, and its mechanical condition must be regarded as unknown. The interior is complete but in a very poor state of preservation. The headlining is completely detached and hanging loose. The seats show heavy wear and significant deterioration of the upholstery. The interior trim, panels, carpets and various coverings will require a complete restoration. The entire interior needs to be redone, as does the rest of the vehicle. The manufacturer’s plate is present on the firewall and remains legible. The engine number C853645 is visible on the firewall. A stamped plate also indicates the chassis number 70342. The vehicle comes with several old Belgian documents, including an administrative declaration for a classic car, a former registration document and various certificates establishing its administrative history. No registration certificate.
