Description
DONNET-ZEDEL TYPE G 1925 – History:
Founded in 1907 in Pontarlier under the name Zedel, the brand became Donnet-Zedel in 1924 following its takeover by Jérôme Donnet. In the mid-1920s, Donnet-Zedel became one of France’s leading car manufacturers, offering a range of reliable and affordable cars, including the Type G, designed for customers seeking a sturdy family car.
The Type G was fitted with a four-cylinder side-valve engine and featured a traditional design based on a separate chassis, rigid axles and leaf springs. Produced in the late 1920s, this series contributed to the brand’s commercial success prior to the financial difficulties that would lead to Donnet’s demise in 1934.
Today, Donnet-Zedels have become rare on the market and bear witness to an important period in the French motor industry.
Description:
The example shown here is a Donnet-Zedel Type G fitted with a manual gearbox.
The bodywork appears complete and retains its original appearance. The red paintwork is original and shows numerous signs of wear and tear, localised traces of corrosion and a thick layer of dust. The car as a whole provides a basis for a complete restoration.
The engine compartment appears to be largely complete. The radiator, fan, carburettor, alternator, starter motor and the main mechanical components are present. The whole unit shows significant surface oxidation due to prolonged disuse and will require a complete restoration. No attempt has been made to start the engine, and its mechanical condition must be regarded as unknown.
The interior requires restoration. The upholstery is badly worn and torn, requiring a complete refurbishment. The soft top is also torn and will need to be replaced as part of the restoration.
The Donnet-Zedel manufacturer’s plate is present and legible. The chassis plate shows chassis number 15352. The engine number is not recorded. The cold-stamped number has not been found.
The vehicle is sold without keys or documents and requires full restoration.
