Description
1985 PONTIAC FIERO EVOCATION F40 - History:
The Pontiac Fiero was unveiled by General Motors in 1983 and went on sale from the 1984 model year onwards. The first mass-produced mid-engined car manufactured by an American carmaker, it is distinguished by its steel chassis clad in composite body panels. This unique architecture quickly made it a popular choice as a basis for numerous conversions, notably Ferrari-inspired models.
Description:
The vehicle is being presented after a long period in storage. It is a Pontiac Fiero converted into a Ferrari F40 replica, built on its original mechanical chassis. The conversion notably includes a bespoke body with widened wings, redesigned bumpers, side air intakes and an imposing rear spoiler; the overall design is loosely based on the style of the Ferrari F40 without faithfully reproducing its proportions or details.
The bodywork is in satisfactory overall condition. There are cracks in the fibreglass bodywork on the rear wings.
The front compartment is complete. The spare wheel is present with its tyre. The various original Pontiac components, notably the brake assembly, the fuel tanks and the air-conditioning system components, are still in place. The GM manufacturer’s plates, identification labels and original stickers have been retained.
The engine compartment retains its original Pontiac configuration. The 2.5-litre ‘Iron Duke’ 4-cylinder engine is complete with its fuel injection system, intake and accessories. The whole assembly is simply covered in dust and grime resulting from a long period of inactivity. The exhaust manifolds show normal surface oxidation, and no major dismantling or specific mechanical modifications were noted during the visual inspection.
The various identification numbers match between the cold-stamped chassis number, the plate visible on the windscreen, the manufacturer’s plate, the RPO code label and the administrative documents provided. The vehicle comes with its original Illinois Title and its original Belgian registration certificate.
It should be noted that the bodywork does not therefore correspond to that of a Pontiac Fiero. This car may not be eligible for registration depending on its new country of registration.
