Description
1976 CADILLAC FLEETWOOD ELDORADO CABRIOLET – History:
Introduced in 1967, the Cadillac Eldorado marked a significant turning point in the history of the American brand by adopting a front-wheel-drive layout, which was particularly unusual for a large luxury coupé of that era.
The generation to which this example belongs was introduced in 1971 and remained in production until 1978. Still marketed under the name Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado, it is characterised by its imposing dimensions, high level of equipment and massive V8 engine.
The 1976 model retains the famous Cadillac 500 ci V8 – equivalent to approximately 8.2 litres – paired with a three-speed automatic gearbox and front-wheel drive. At the time, this engine was one of the largest V8s fitted to a mass-produced American car.
Measuring nearly 5.70 metres in length, with six seats and a particularly luxurious interior, the Eldorado perfectly epitomises the grand American coupés of the 1970s.
Description:
This Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado is fresh out of storage. The bodywork is heavily encrusted with grime and shows significant general deterioration due to its prolonged period of inactivity. The paintwork has completely faded and several areas show signs of rust.
Several bodywork and trim components are also missing, damaged or have been removed.
The interior is still relatively complete, featuring its bench seats, dashboard, door panels and various original trim fittings, but the whole interior is very heavily soiled and deteriorated. Several spare parts and wheel trims are stored inside.
The engine compartment still houses the Cadillac V8, but it is partially dismantled, with part of the upper engine assembly exposed. Many components have been removed or disconnected, and the whole unit shows significant rusting due to storage. The engine has not been started and its running condition is unknown.
The visible manufacturer’s plate bears the number 6L67S6Q488148.
This Cadillac therefore serves as a base requiring a complete restoration, or could be considered as a source of parts for the restoration of another example.
