Description
FIAT 500 F 1967 – History: Unveiled in 1965, the Fiat 500 F succeeded the 500 D and represents one of the most iconic evolutions of the famous little Italian city car. It belongs to the Fiat Nuova 500 family, launched in 1957 under the leadership of engineer Dante Giacosa with the aim of offering an economical, compact car that was accessible to as many people as possible. The 500 F, produced until 1972, differed notably from the early versions in its adoption of front-hinged doors, replacing the famous ‘suicide’ doors of earlier models. However, it retained the key features that made the 500 such a success: extremely compact dimensions, a fabric sunroof and an air-cooled twin-cylinder engine mounted at the rear. It was fitted with a 499.5 cm³ twin-cylinder engine, coupled with a four-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. With a power output of around 18 ch, the Fiat 500 was obviously not designed for sportiness, but its light weight and simple mechanical design enabled it to fulfil its role as a popular small car perfectly. Produced in the millions across its various versions, the Fiat 500 has become one of the symbols of post-war Italian motoring. The 500 F is now one of the most representative and sought-after variants of this generation. Description: This Fiat 500 F is finished in an attractive orange-yellow colour, paired with its traditional black soft top. Overall, the paintwork presents a fine general appearance, with a gloss that is still satisfactory. However, a few imperfections, small chips, marks and signs of wear are visible here and there, as would be expected given the vehicle’s age. Particular attention should, however, be paid to the underbody. Previous repairs are visible and certain areas have been coated with a protective product such as Blaxon. As this coating prevents a direct view of the condition of the metal panel underneath, the actual condition and exact extent of any repairs or signs of corrosion on the underbody cannot be determined on the basis of a visual inspection alone. A thorough inspection on a lift is therefore recommended. The interior retains a simple design characteristic of the model. The various visible components show signs of wear and tear, as well as grime and a few marks associated with age. The pedals, floor mats and various trim elements also show signs of long-standing wear. The front boot still contains the fuel tank, spare wheel and battery. It shows signs of wear and tear, with dirt and some traces of surface oxidation. The wiring harness has undergone various modifications and connections, with several visible connections that will need to be checked. The cold-stamped markings visible in the front boot identify the vehicle as a Fiat Type 110 F and bear the number FIAT 110F 1433565. The vehicle retains an engine bearing the marking ‘FIAT 110F.000’, number 1531341. This is the 499.5 cm³ air-cooled two-cylinder petrol engine characteristic of the Fiat 500 F. The presence of this type of engine is therefore consistent with the model. As its running condition has yet to be checked – no road test has been carried out – the mechanical condition cannot be guaranteed. This Fiat 500 F therefore presents a rather attractive overall exterior appearance, with the paintwork appearing to be in good condition on the whole. It will, however, require various checks and restoration work, with particular attention needed for the underbody due to previous repairs and the presence of protective coating covering certain areas.
