Description
LANCIA FULVIA 3 COUPÉ 1.3S 1974 – History: Unveiled in 1965, the Lancia Fulvia Coupé was the sporty variant of the Fulvia saloon, which had been launched two years earlier. Designed under the direction of Piero Castagnero, it stood out for its compact and elegant lines, as well as its particularly sophisticated mechanical design. The Fulvia featured an original, very narrow V-four engine, mounted longitudinally at the front and paired with front-wheel drive. Its balance and handling qualities contributed significantly to the model’s sporting reputation, particularly in rallying. The second-series Fulvia Coupé 1.3 S appeared in 1970. It was fitted with a 1,298 cm³ engine, type 818.303, developing around 90 ch, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Type 818.630 refers to left-hand-drive models. From 1973–1974, the model evolved into the version commonly known as the ‘Fulvia 3’, which retained the type 818.630 and the same mechanical underpinnings. It is distinguished in particular by several changes to its interior and exterior styling. Description: This Lancia Fulvia Coupé 1.3 S, corresponding to the version commonly known as the Fulvia 3, has just been taken out of storage and is in a condition requiring a complete restoration. The bodywork is very heavily affected by corrosion, which is present on numerous parts of the body, notably the sills, wheel arches, window surrounds and various panel joints. The paintwork is severely faded and deteriorated, with numerous areas where the paint has peeled away, blistering, signs of oxidation and surface defects. Given the extent of the visible corrosion, the condition of the structural components, floor panels, underbody and hollow sections must be thoroughly inspected. Significant bodywork repairs are to be expected, and the presence of further corrosion in non-visible areas cannot be ruled out. The interior is still relatively complete but shows significant general wear and tear, with dirt, wear and deterioration of the various trim components. The dashboard and its instruments are still in place. The carpets are very heavily worn and stained. The front seats and rear bench seat are mismatched and feature different upholstery. The front seats, in particular, show significant wear and several areas of damage. A general refurbishment of the interior will be required. The engine compartment retains its Lancia narrow-V four-cylinder engine, bearing the serial number 818.303116397. The 818.303 engine type does indeed correspond to that fitted to the Fulvia Coupé 1.3 S (type 818.630). However, the engine bay shows significant signs of having been in storage for a long time, with dirt and rust on many components. The engine has not been started and no mechanical or road tests have been carried out. Its internal condition and operational status therefore remain unknown. A complete overhaul of the mechanical components, braking system, fuel system, cooling system and all peripheral components will need to be carried out before any attempt is made to return the vehicle to the road. The riveted manufacturer’s plate identifies the vehicle as a Lancia Fulvia Coupé 1.3 S, type 818.630, and bears the number 818.630*064083. A second stamped mark is visible on the right-hand front wing moulding and appears to read 630 22123 10, though this requires confirmation. This mark likely corresponds to the body number used by Lancia, which is distinct from the chassis number. It is therefore normal for the two numbers not to be identical. In the absence of registration documents, however, the vehicle’s official identity and the definitive correspondence between its various identification details cannot be guaranteed. Given its general condition, the very severe corrosion of the bodywork, the state of the interior and the fact that the mechanical components have not been inspected, this Fulvia is primarily a project requiring a complete and extensive restoration. It could also be considered as a source of parts for the restoration of another example.
