Description
MG TC 1948 – History: The MG TC is one of the most iconic models to emerge from British sports car production in the immediate post-war period. Unveiled in 1945 as the successor to the MG TB, it followed the brand’s traditional formula for small roadsters: a separate chassis, a lightweight two-seater body, spoked wheels and an XPAG four-cylinder engine mated to a four-speed manual gearbox. Produced until 1949, the TC played a major part in MG’s international reputation and in fostering an interest in British sports cars, particularly in the United States. Today, examples retaining their original specification and with a documented history are particularly sought after. Description: This 1948 MG TC is presented in an attractive red livery with a red interior and spoked wheels. The car has a particularly authentic appearance. Its bodywork and overall presentation bear a very pronounced period patina, consistent with a car that has been preserved rather than fully restored. The red paintwork has faded and shows various imperfections, marks, scratches and signs of wear. These features should be appreciated in the context of a classic car that retains much of its historic character. It retains the main characteristic features of the TC: the vertical MG grille, separate wings, a folding windscreen, spoked wheels, central instrument cluster and a two-seater cabin. Many original details and fittings are still present. The red interior also displays a patina consistent with the overall appearance. The appeal of this car lies precisely in its vintage, consistent and well-preserved character, rather than in a show-car finish resulting from a recent restoration. The powertrain consists of the traditional MG four-cylinder engine, paired with a four-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. The documentation accompanying the car lists the engine number as 4561. Unlike many classic cars offered straight from storage, this car is roadworthy and in working order. Naturally, it will require the usual checks before any regular use, given its age and long history. One of the main attractions of this example lies in its exceptional collection of documentation. The inclusion of old Belgian documents, registration and type-approval papers, correspondence and various items tracing its history constitutes a particularly valuable addition for a car of this period. The car comes with its documents in order and its keys. Thanks to its original delivery in Belgium, its extensive documentation, its highly authentic condition, its patina and the presence of numerous original and period components, this MG TC is a particularly charming example, intended for the enthusiast who values history and authenticity over a full restoration.
