Panhard opted for a lightweight, aerodynamic car, fitted with an air-cooled flat-twin engine and front-wheel drive. The first Dyna Z models were notable in particular for their extensive use of aluminium. The manufacturing cost of this approach gradually led Panhard to revert to steel. The Z11, introduced for the 1957 model year, was thus the first version of the Dyna Z to feature an all-steel body. Produced from August 1956 to July 1959, the Z11 was a four-door, six-seater saloon. It was fitted with the Panhard M5 engine, an 851 cm³ air-cooled, four-stroke, flat-twin engine, coupled with a four-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel drive. The Club Panhard et Levassor France states that this version had an output of 42 ch SAE and a top speed of approximately 115 km/h. Thanks to its original mechanical design, aerodynamic engineering and particularly favourable balance between interior space and engine capacity, the Dyna Z remains one of the most distinctive cars to come out of French production in the 1950s.
