SAVIGNAC Raymond (1907–2002), illustrator for DUNLOP TYRES
Flat enamelled plaque with a rim, vertical format – produced by an Alsatian enamelling workshop in Strasbourg
In 1888, John Boyd Dunlop invented the pneumatic tyre in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Whilst watching his grandson riding a bicycle, he had the idea of sticking strips of rubber onto the wooden wheels and pumping air underneath them. This innovation made travel more comfortable and also meant less energy was required to move forward. The first pneumatic tyre was born, and J.B. Dunlop filed the first patent for it on 23 July 1888 (source: dunlop.eu)
