Hong Kong, 1904–1911. Early colour postcard depicting a panoramic view of the eastern part of Hong Kong harbour, animated by numerous steamers, sailing ships, junks and port facilities in the foreground. Published by M. Sternberg, Hong Kong, no. 17, one of the leading postcard publishers in the British colony at the beginning of the 20th century. Card sent to Belgium, addressed to Mr Max Tilman, rue Hennet, Liège. Franked with a Hong Kong 4-cent stamp bearing the effigy of King Edward VII, cancelled in Hong Kong. Faint marking on the reverse. Taken together, these elements allow the mailing to be dated to circa 1904–1911. A fine example offering a testimony of Hong Kong harbour during the British colonial era, with a postal provenance to Belgium. From the same correspondence to Max Tilman of Liège as the Hankow 1908 and Shanghai 1910 cards in this sale.
