AUBUSSON, fin du XVIIe-début XVIIIe siècle Le mariage de Psyché Tapisserie en laine et soie, la bordure à décor de vases et guirlandes florales d’après les cartons du peintre du roi Isaac Moillon (1614-1673) Sur un fond de châteaux et de colonnes, sont réunis les Dieux reconnaissables à leurs attributs. Au centre Jupiter tend une coupe à Psyché, le visage tourné vers l’Amour représenté à gauche. Vénus est figurée derrière Jupiter, Junon et Apollon sur la droite. Entre Psyché et Jupiter se tient l’Hymen portant un flambeau. Elégante bordure à guirlandes de fleurs. 290 x 530 cm Nombreuses restaurations dans les marrons en particulier, doublée, galon marron du bas rapporté. Notre tapisserie fait partie de la tenture de l’histoire de Psyché et est la dernière pièce identifiée à ce jour. La tenture se composait des sujets suivants : L’Hommage rendu à Psyché, Psyché transportée sur la montagne, Le Bain de Psyché, Psyché et ses sœurs, Psyché et l’amour endormi, Psyché suppliant Junon, L’épreuve de la laine d’or, L’épreuve de la crème de beauté, Psyché réveillée par l’Amour, Le mariage de Psyché Plusieurs tentures de Psyché existent, provenant d’ateliers Parisien, de Beauvais ou des Flandres et sont conservées dans des musées ou des châteaux (Azay le Rideau, Victoria et Albert Museum) L’histoire de Psyché est issue des Métamorphoses ou L’Ane d’or d’Apulée, écrit au IIe siècle. Jupiter ordonna à Mercure de convoquer les Dieux pour que Psyché soit mariée au plus vite afin d’éviter d’éventuels adultères. At the centre Jupiter extends a cup to Psyche, whose face turns towards Cupid represented at left. Venus appears behind Jupiter, with Juno and Apollo at right. Between Psyche and Jupiter stands Hymen holding a torch. Elegant floral garland border. 290 x 530 cm. Numerous restorations, especially in the brown tones, lined, lower brown galloon later added. Our tapestry belongs to the series depicting the Story of Psyche and is the last identified piece to date. The series comprised the following subjects: Homage Paid to Psyche, Psyche Carried to the Mountain, The Bath of Psyche, Psyche and her Sisters, Psyche and Sleeping Cupid, Psyche Supplicating Juno, The Trial of the Golden Fleece, The Trial of the Beauty Cream, Psyche Awakened by Cupid, The Marriage of Psyche. Several Psyche series exist from Parisian, Beauvais and Flemish workshops and are preserved in museums and castles (Azay-le-Rideau, Victoria and Albert Museum). The story of Psyche derives from Apuleius’ Metamorphoses or The Golden Ass, written in the 2nd century. Jupiter ordered Mercury to summon the gods so that Psyche might marry as quickly as possible in order to avoid possible adulteries. Arazzo in lana e seta, la bordura decorata con vasi e ghirlande floreali su cartoni del pittore del Re Isaac Moillon (1614-1673), su fondo di castelli e colonne, con le divinità riconoscibili attraverso i loro attributi. Al centro Giove tende una coppa a Psiche, il cui volto è rivolto verso Amore raffigurato a sinistra. Venere appare dietro Giove, mentre Giunone e Apollo sono a destra. Tra Psiche e Giove si trova Imeneo con una torcia. Elegante bordura a ghirlande floreali. 290 x 530 cm. Numerosi restauri soprattutto nei bruni, foderato, gallone marrone inferiore applicato successivamente. Il nostro arazzo appartiene alla serie della Storia di Psiche ed è l’ultimo esemplare identificato a oggi. La serie comprendeva i seguenti soggetti: L’omaggio reso a Psiche, Psiche trasportata sulla montagna, Il bagno di Psiche, Psiche e le sue sorelle, Psiche e Amore addormentato, Psiche supplica Giunone, La prova del vello d’oro, La prova della crema di bellezza, Psiche risvegliata da Amore, Il matrimonio di Psiche. Diverse serie di Psiche, provenienti da manifatture parigine, di Beauvais o delle Fiandre, sono conservate in musei e castelli (Azay-le-Rideau, Victoria and Albert Museum). La storia di Psiche deriva dalle Metamorfosi o L’asino d’oro di Apuleio, scritto nel II secolo. Giove ordinò a Mercurio di convocare gli dèi affinché Psiche si sposasse al più presto per evitare eventuali adulteri.
