Il prie de l’inscrire au dîner qui se tiendra au Crystal Palace où doit être abordée la réduction des tarifs. Il voit dans les journaux qu’on a adopté le principe de la promotion de l’accroissement des rapports commerciaux entre les nations (« the more general principle of the promotion of increased commercial intercourse between nations »), et qu’on a annoncé une alliance avec « the Trade association of the Staffordshire Potteries » dont les efforts ne se limitent pas au plus libre échange de produit avec les pays vinicoles, mais avec chaque nation qui a un commerce naturel avec la Grande-Bretagne (« whose efforts are not confined to the more free interchange of product with the winegrowing countries, but with every nation that has the natural mean of trading with Great Britain »)…
