Description
15 stereoscopic views of "Les Diableries". Albumen prints (French tissues), 8,5 x 17,5 cm, captions in the images - Les Diableries is a series of photographs of clay sculptures depicting Satan's daily life in Hell. A critic of Napoleon III's regime and the morals of the wealthiest social classes of the time. The sculptor Pierre Hennetier began depicting the devil. He was joined by another sculptor, Louis Habert, together and separately, they produced many scenes in clay. These scenes were then photographed and edited by a certain Lamiche, and from 1868 onwards by Adolphe Block (for Habert) and Jules Marinier (for Hennetier). Scenes: "Concert infernal", "Un souper chez Satan", "Les sept péchés capitaux", "Le Sabbat", "Le tribunal de Satan", "Danse macabre", "Poursuite dans les catacombes", "La bibliothèque infernale"...
