Most are sourced from the Magazine sections of American newspapers: Heart's Sunday American (March 8, 1914; January 10, 1915), San Francisco Examiner (January 17, 1915; August 6, 1916), Los Angeles Examiner (Dec. 26, 1915; January 23, 1916) and New Haven Sunday Union (Oct. 1, 1916). Color designs by Léon Bakst, George Barbier and Robert Montenegro, depicting famous dancers (Karsavina, Fokine, Nijinsky, etc.) in ballet costumes.
