Dipnosophistarum sive Coenae sapientum libri XV. Natale de comitibus Veneto, nunc primum è Graeca in Latinam linguam vertente [...]. 8vo: [24]-898-[28-1 bl.] pp. (occ. spotting). - Rare edition of Athenaeus' Deipnosophistae, translated by the mythographer Natale Conti (1520-1582). The author gives an account of banquets held at the house of Larensius, scholar and wealthy patron of the arts to his friend Timocrates. This work contains information on gastronomy, wine, food, but also on music, dance, philology, etc., and is also important because in the course of the discussions, participants quote authors or writings which are not otherwise recorded. Woodcut printer's mark on title. - Ref. Vicaire 50. - Renouard III:283. - Baudrier IV:166. - Not in STC French, Adams or Bitting (other ed.). - Prov. J. De Walsche (old ms. entry).
