(occ. spotting or light staining, lower bl. margins in quire D restored). - Rare first edition of the Dutch translation of "Pia desideria" by the Jesuit Hugo (1588-1629). Nicely illustrated with 48 woodcuts: title, coat of arms, in-text ill. and 45 full-page emblems (mostly by Christoffel van Sichem after Boëtius à Bolswert), each with a Latin Bible quotation. With the additional leaf errata at the end. Enriched with doubles (washed & some restored) of almost all emblems, title, coat of arms and text leaf in introduction. - Ref.
