Scientific results of the Second Yarkand Mission; based upon the collections and notes of the late Ferdinand Stoliczka, Ph.d. Aves. Lge 4to; 24 pl. (text n.c., few spots throughout). - Complete ornithological section of the official report (14 parts in total) of the Second Yarkand Mission, a government-supported expedition during the height of the "Great Game" to the important buffer state in eastern Turkestan, led by Th.D. Forsyth (1827-1886). During the mission, the naturalist Stoliczka (1838-1974) took extensive notes, but unfortunately died at the end of this mission. While Stoliczka requested that the results on the birds part of the expedition had to be edited and published by Allan Octavian Hume, it was completed by Sharpe. Complete (for this part) with 24 nicely hand-coloured, lith. pl. after drawings by the renowned ornithological artists W. Hart, J.G. Keulemans and J. Smit. - Ref. Anker 465. - Nissen (IVB) 861.
