(some ff. age-toned or sl. browned, upper margin of p. 159 repaired). - First edition, an 8vo edition was published the same year but the 4to is more rare, of 4 fundamental essays on hygrometry by the Swiss geologist, physicist and Alpine explorer de Saussure (1740-1790). Apart from the description of the science that laid the foundations for meteorology, it describes the hair hygrometer that de Saussure invented and experimented at the summit of Mont Blanc in 1787 and deals with evaporation and some application on meteorological phenomena.
