Sacred art objects, icons, statues, manuscripts and crucifixes
Sacred art objects, icons, statues, manuscripts and crucifixes.
Objects of sacred art from a variety of religious traditions: statues of saints, antique crucifixes, hand-painted Byzantine icons, liturgical candlesticks, illuminated manuscripts, reliquaries or ritual objects used in Christian ceremonies, Orthodox or otherwise.
Some of the pieces are of monastic or ecclesiastical origin, while others come from private collections. There are also works of art inspired by religious themes, such as biblical paintings, sculptures with sacred motifs, and decorative objects combining Christian iconography and symbolic influences.
The materials used - carved wood, gilded metal, ivory, bronze, silver and enamels - bear witness to the care given to these objects, which are both spiritual and artistic. Whether it's an ancient devotional object, a Gothic crucifix, an Orthodox icon or an illustrated religious manuscript, each piece evokes a tradition, a belief, a sacred use.
