Description
A Sino-Tibetan thangka of Buddha Shakyamuni. Sino-Tibetan, distemper on cloth. Painted in vibrant colours, it depicts Buddha Shakyamuni seated in dhyanasana on a lotus throne in a natural setting, his left hand in dhyana mudra cradling a begging bowl, surrounded by his principal disciples, lamas, buddhis and lions, amongst other creatures. An inscription on the reverse. 18th/19th century. Dimensions: 74 x 57 cm (including frame), 48 x 41 cm (image). Good condition, with some material loss, creasing, soiling and loose threads. 48 x 40.5 cm (dimensions of the artwork).
