A frame of a Japanese ‘lady’ woodblock print (ukiyo-e) Depicting a noblewoman from the Heian period seated in a formal kneeling posture. She has long, straight black hair and pale, stylised facial features typical of classical Japanese court portraiture. She wears layered juni-hitoe court robes: a soft off-white outer kimono with sleeves featuring subtle woven patterns, lined with vibrant scarlet red fabric. A dark charcoal-grey lower garment is tied around her waist. 19th/20th century. L: 51 x 35 cm.
