FRANCHE-COMTÉ. P.S. by 18 deputies and clerks, 2 April 1659; 6 pages, small folio. Instructions and memorial for Charles-Emmanuel de GORRENOD, Marquis de Marnay, Archbishop-elect of Besançon, and Antoine MICHOTEY, Vice-President of the Parliament of Dole, commissioned by the Three Estates of the Franche-Comté of Burgundy, to present to His Majesty [Philip IV of Spain] the deliberations of the Estates. Submission to His Majesty; conditions for a peace with the French; request for the right to maintain neutrality and a truce, and to form an alliance with the Swiss; management of finances, the role of the adviser, the offices of Parliament, etc. The document is signed by the nine master deputies and the nine commissioners, including Archbishop Charles de Gorrenod, Jean-Ignace Froissard de Broissia, François de Poligny, Baron de Monfort, etc. Attached is a manuscript, a draft (in duplicate) of the closing proceedings of the Estates General of 1666, convened by Marie-Anne of Austria, Queen, Regent and mother of Charles VI of Spain (a 36-page notebook, small folio).
