Paris, Jacques du Puys, 1586. 2 parts in one in-4 volume, grained calfskin, decorated spine, marbled edges (17th-century binding). The most famous of the 16th-century rural encyclopaedias. This work by Charles Estienne (1504–1564), published in 1564 and reprinted and expanded many times by his son-in-law Jean Liébault (1535–1596), covers all aspects of country life, such as agriculture, forestry, viticulture, gardening, livestock farming, hunting, falconry, fishing, etc. This new edition, edited by Jacques du Puys, is illustrated with numerous woodcuts within the text Also bound in the volume is: CLAMORGAN (Jean de).
