CASTILLO SOLORZANO (Alonzo del)] – [OUVILLE (Antoine d').] *La Fouyne de Seville, or The Fisherman’s Hook*. Translated from the Spanish by D. Alonço de Castillo Sovorçano. Paris, Billaine, 1661. 12mo, brown calfskin, embossed with a cold-stamped fillet, gilt coat of arms on the covers, decorated spine, red edges (contemporary binding). 2 ff. (title page and note to the reader), 592 pp., 1 f. of privileges. First edition of the French translation of *La Garduña de Sevilla* by Castillo Solorzano (published in Madrid in 1642). It comprises three short stories: *He Who Wants Everything Loses Everything*, *The Count of Vegetables*, and *What Honour Obliges Us To*. Brunet believed this translation to be by Boisrobert. It was first attributed to D’Ouville by Barbier, Cioranescu and Lever. Palau considers it to be a collaborative translation. “The question of the edition remains unresolved to this day: the preface states that, following d’Ouville’s death, the work was found amongst his papers and that subsequently his brother-in-law, one of the most refined minds of the century, had it published...” says Losada Goya. A copy bearing the coat of arms of Jeanne d’Albert de Luynes, Countess of Verrue, with the inscription ‘Meudon’ above the arms and elements of her alternate arms on the spine.
