Together with the continuation of this story up to the death of the Paladin Roland, in accordance with the author’s intention... Paris, A. de Sommaville and Aug. Courbé, 1644. 2 volumes in-8, brown calfskin, framed with a triple blind-stamped line, gilded coat of arms in the centre, decorated spine, red edges (18th-century binding). Title page and frontispiece engraved by L. Gaultier, 14 ff. (dedication to Marie de Médicis and table of contents, preface), 44 ff. paginated, title (Sequel to *Orlando Furioso*), 3 ff. (to the reader and table of contents), 102 ff. (incorrectly numbered as 99), 5 ff. of table of contents.
Translation of the 46 cantos of Ariosto’s *Orlando Furioso* by François de Rosset. It was first published in 1615.
17 full-page illustrations by Léonard Gaultier. The Sequel (dated 1643) is illustrated with one figure. The 12 adventures in this sequel are by François de Rosset. “Following Chapuys’s poor translation came that of Fr. de Rosset, also in prose, containing a new sequel to the poem by the translator…” according to Brunet.
A bound copy in 2 volumes, the second volume beginning on folio 275.
