PLUTARCH. Works. Paris, Cussac, Year IX (1801) – Year XIV (1805). 25 volumes in-8, fawn-coloured veal leather with a grain finish, framed with a gilt fillet and garland, plain spine decorated with gilt fillets and chains, alternating coats of arms and portraits, title labels and volume numbers in black morocco, yellow edges (P. Doll). The Cussac bookshop had published a first edition of Amyot’s translation in 22 volumes between 1783 and 1787. This second edition is expanded to include notes by Brottier and Vauvilliers, a volume of unpublished treatises and fragments translated by E. Clavier, the work’s publisher, and two volumes of tables. The first 12 volumes contain the *Lives of Illustrious Men* as published by Vascosan in 1567–1574 (9 volumes) and 3 supplementary volumes. The following five volumes contain the *Moral Works*, followed by four volumes of *Miscellaneous Works* and three volumes of tables. A fine set of neoclassical engravings in intaglio, comprising 22 plates by Moreau the Younger, engraved by Dalbon, Meys and Marillier, allowing a comparison of the visions of the finest artists of the period; and 131 line-drawing reproductions of medals and ancient monuments within the text.  A fine, complete copy including the volumes of tables, which were published three years after the main text and are often missing. A copy on Holland paper, finely bound in a binding signed by P. Doll, a pupil of Bozerian who worked, amongst others, for Napoleon and Queen Marie-Amélie; he practised from 1796 to 1825.
