Volume 2 only. Folio, 886 pp. 1 plate. Full contemporary binding in brown sheepskin. Ribbed spine, decorated with gilt metal fittings. The lower part of the spine is missing. Two lower corners are worn. A working copy, worn and damaged. Leather missing from the covers. Scuffs. Scattered foxing and a few contemporary annotations in the margins.
A scholarly and in-depth analysis of the customs of Poitou, including commentaries by his predecessors and comparisons with neighbouring regions: Angoumois, Touraine and La Rochelle. It also contains numerous cross-references.
No other original analysis of Poitou customary law was undertaken after him. The work was published by his son 20 years after Boucheul’s death. ¶ Dupin II, p. 246, nos. 837–14. “Boucheul was a lawyer at the royal court of Le Dorat, capital of the Basse-Marche, his place of birth...” ... he later became seneschal of the barony of Riz-Chauveron (Haute-Vienne), and his reputation earned him the nickname ‘the eagle of his time’.
