Description
Armenian dictionary, 1706 Manuscript on paper by an anonymous scribe in 1706. 228 folios written in notragir script. 11 x 5.4 x 4 cm. The manuscript has recently been restored and is in very good condition, with the exception of 3 pages missing between folios 33 and 34. The binding has been restored and the original covers have been preserved. This document constitutes an Armenian dictionary which includes words from a number of old explanatory dictionaries and words selected from various texts from medieval Armenian and ancient Greek literature (the so-called Homeric lexicon, in the broad sense of Greek culture). It also includes dialect words and proper nouns. Many of these words no longer appear in modern Armenian dictionaries. A short colophon of the book at the bottom of folio 1r: Սկիզբն եղև գրուս ի թուին ՌՃԾԵ (I began writing this in the year 1706). Some pages have occasional graffiti, in the margins such as those on folios 171v, 185v, 217v. A prayer is added at the end of the dictionary on folio 228v.
