Description
STATUETTE OF A DIGNITARY
Carved from basalt, depicting a standing figure with feet together, arms pressed close to the body, and hands resting on his long loincloth. The torso is bare. The head is now missing. On the back, a dorsal pillar inscribed with a column of hieroglyphs.

A Middle Kingdom basalt statuette of a dignitary. Depicted standing facing forwards, with straight arms and hands resting on either side of the body. Legs together. The figure wears a long kilt with a projecting apron, fastened with a knot at the waist. The head is now missing. On the back, a back-pillar with a hieroglyphic column. An offering which the king gives to Osiris, Lord of Busiris, the great god, Lord (of Abydos), that he may present an invocation-offering consisting of bread, beer..." — Courtesy of J. Billen
