Provenance: The artist’s studio
Acquired from the artist by the current owner
Marion Verboom was born in 1983 in Nantes. She lives and works in Paris. Her practice encompasses both drawings and sculptures, each medium functioning autonomously whilst drawing inspiration from the other. The forms projected and modelled in her work draw on the history of sculpture (from ancient forms and subjects to contemporary works), architecture and geology (crystals, sediments, organic formations). In her sculptures, the artist works through arrangements and interplay of materials that reveal the various techniques of ceramic stratification, traces of the material’s manipulation in castings, or the incorporation of figurative elements representing the human body, and so on. Each element is informed by motifs arranged in modules that form basic geometric shapes. After graduating from the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris (2009), Marion Verboom joined the artist-in-residence programme at De Ateliers (Amsterdam, 2009–2011). She was awarded the LVMH Métiers d’Art grant and residency (2018) and collaborated with Chloé (2017–2020). Her works are held in several public collections, including those of the MAC VAL, the FNAC, the City of Paris’s Municipal Contemporary Art Fund, the FRAC Bretagne and the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo in Madrid. Marion Verboom is represented by the Lelong Gallery, where she will present her first exhibition in May 2024.
