[MUSHROOMS]. ROZE (Ernest) and Charles RICHON. Atlas des champignons comestibles et vénéneux de la France et des pays circonvoisins. Paris, Octave Doin, 1888. 2 volumes in-folio, green half-chagrin with corners, spine decorated, gilt head (Period binding). First edition of one of the finest French mushroom atlases of the late 19th century. It appeared in ten issues between 1885 and 1887. The work describes 229 species of mushrooms, both sought-after as food and poisonous. The text volume contains a history of mycology and monographs by Ernest Roze, illustrated with 62 photogravures in the text, while the atlas contains 72 colour lithographed plates after Charles Richon, mounted on tabs, representing each of the species described.
