CHOMEL (Noël). Dictionnaire œconomique, contenant divers moyens d'augmenter son bien, et de conserver sa santé... Paris, veuve Étienne Ganeau, 1740 - Supplément au Dictionnaire œconomique. Ibid, 1743. 4 volumes in-folio, brown calf, ribbed spine decorated with gilded caissons and fleurons, red edges (period binding). Fourth edition of the famous dictionary by Noël Chomel (1632?-1712), revised, corrected, & considerably enlarged by various Curieux and by J. Marret for the Dictionnaire œconomique and by M. Pierre Roger for the Supplément. The first edition of this important encyclopaedic dictionary of agriculture was published in Lyon in 1709. The edition is illustrated with numerous woodcuts in the text (including 13 on distillation). Armorial bookplate with redaction. Some spotting and rubbed corners, very light marginal dampstaining to the last leaves of volume I, dampstains and two small wormholes to the last leaves of volume IV.
