With twelve suggestions for pleasantly & honestly spending the days of the Quaresmeaux... Saint-Omer, Charles Boscard, 1624-1625. Small in-8, brown half calf, four-ribbed spine decorated with gilt, red edges (19th century binding). Second edition, partly original. It is expanded by a second part: Douze propositions pour passer plaisamment et honnetement les jours des quaresmeaux, preceded by a title page and dated 1625. In it, the author denounces the sensual pleasures that turn man into a beast, even "a filthy swine", and lead to eternal punishment in the next world, stigmatising intemperance and excessive eating.
