Description
CARÊME (Marie-Antoine, known as Antonin). Le Pâtissier pittoresque, composed and drawn by M. Antonin Carême, of Paris... 3rd edition, revised and expanded. Paris, Firmin Didot, 1828. In-8, half calf in bradel glossy burgundy (Modern binding). Extremely rare third edition. It bears Carême's signature on the verso of the false title. The illustration includes an engraved title and 125 line-engraved plates outside the text, one hundred and ten of which represent a variety of models of pavilions, rotundas, temples, ruins, towers, belvederes, forts, waterfalls... and hermitages... Edition unknown to Vicaire, Bitting, Drexel, Goerg, Westbury and Schraemli, who cite the 1842 edition as being the third. Oberlé describes it (Fastes, n°186). Some foxing.
