CARNOT (Sadi). Menu for the banquet offered to President Sadi Carnot by the Lyon City Council and the Rhône General Council on 24 June 1894 on the occasion of the Lyon Universal, International & Colonial Exhibition. In-12 oblong, 8 pp. printed on 2 pieces of gold and cream silk with wide fringes, bound with a tricolour cord and illustrated with views of the exhibition pavilions and Lyon's most emblematic monuments, with a musical programme following. The menu for the banquet given to President Sadi Carnot on the evening of his assassination by the Italian anarchist Caserio, who stabbed him to death as he was leaving the Palais du Commerce in Lyon. Attached is an oval silk portrait of Sadi Carnot (9.5 x 7.3 cm) woven in 1890 and mounted on card.
