Description
MURAT (JOACHIM). Set of 2 letters signed as King of Naples, addressed to General Jacques-David-Martin Campredon, Chief of Engineers in his army. - Naples, 28 December 1808. " ... I do not doubt the eagerness you have shown in carrying out my orders concerning the ROUTES DES ABRUZZES; but the people employed by you must not have shown the same diligence and their reports must not have been very accurate. I HAVE LEARNED THAT THE DIFFICULTY OF COMMUNICATIONS IN THESE PROVINCES IS ALWAYS THE SAME, and that until the 13th of this month no work had been seen on the roads. I recommend that you take all measures to ensure that your orders are carried out punctually and to find out whether you have really been deceived by being charged as completed for work which does not even appear to have begun...". (2/3 p. in-4). - Naples, 6 January 1809. "You speak of the repairs carried out, indicating the division of the articles, but you do not tell me at all about the sums which were used for them. I would like you to repair this omission, and to let me know the money which was used for each of them. I would also like you to send me a report on the road to Capo di Monte, I am assured that there are abuses and perhaps even disqualifications in this area...". (1/2 p. in-4). On General Campredon, see no. 134 above.
