Fawn-coloured scaled calfskin, spine with 5 raised bands and floral decoration, title page in light morocco, volume pages in green morocco, double blind-stamped fillet on the covers, gilt roulette on the edges, red edges. First edition. Interesting essays, including one on Roman roads. The author was from Poligny, a counsellor and master at the Court of Auditors, Revenue, Estates and Finance of the County of Burgundy; a member of the Academy of Sciences, Literature and Arts of Besançon, and of the Royal Agricultural Society of Orléans.
From the library of P. A. G. Bernard de La Pernette de Saint-Maurice, with his engraved, embossed and handwritten bookplate. Gustave (Paul Albert Gustave Anatole) Bernard de La Pernette de Saint-Maurice (1816–1890), a native of Besançon, whose ancestors distinguished themselves in Burgundy.
