*Charles Edouard Boyer-Peyreleau (1774–1856); Baron of the Empire, military officer and politician. During the Restoration, he was appointed second-in-command of Guadeloupe (13 June 1814). During the Hundred Days, he appears to have rallied to Napoleon’s cause. On 6 June 1815, Guadeloupe was under a state of siege. On 15 June, a schooner from the imperial government, sent to secure the allegiance of Guadeloupe and Martinique, landed, forcing Boyer to put pressure on Governor De Linois. Following De Linois’s refusal, on 18 June, Boyer ordered the arrest of several officials and the detention of the governor, and on 19 June announced his allegiance to the Emperor. The British intervened on 10 August; Linois and Boyer surrendered. Brought before a court-martial in March 1816, he was sentenced to death, a sentence commuted to 20 years’ imprisonment. After being pardoned, he retired to his estate in the Gard and was elected to the National Assembly twice between 1831 and 1841
