This manuscript is fully in keeping with Ottoman Qur'anic production at the end of the 16th century, a period marked by a high degree of standardisation and refinement in the copying of the sacred text. The illuminated frontispiece, with its symmetrical composition dominated by lapis blue and gold, refers to models well attested in the imperial and provincial workshops of the Ottoman Empire in the period of Murad III. As the copyist, Muhammad b. Yahyâ al-Tarjumân, is not documented in known sources, this suggests a high-quality production outside the major imperial centres, illustrating the spread and appropriation of Ottoman models throughout the Empire. The stamp attesting to its donation to the Mevlevihane of Kilis places this Qur'an in the tradition of Ottoman pious foundations. The Mevlevi Sufi convents, centres of spirituality and culture, played an essential role in the conservation and transmission of manuscripts. An Ottoman illuminated Qur'an,copied by Muhammad b.
