Through the means he knows and masters — material, form and object — Ribaudí invites us to reflect on the relationship between human beings and their environment, and on the new moral framework with which they intend to tackle the devastation of the planet. By subverting the language of materials — transforming wood into a mineral, leather into a plant, and the viewer into an animal that perceives it — the project questions the animal-centred path that this new moral code has taken.
Please note: the stool is slightly unstable — intentionally so on the part of the artist — as this is a post-anthropocentric project that does not seek comfort. On the contrary, it asserts that the human body, like all animals, is capable of adapting to discomfort, and therefore of sitting on an unstable seat.
Jordi Ribaudí (born in 1968)
A graduate in Industrial Design, he founded Estudi Ribaudí in 1996, specialising in product, furniture and lighting design.
He was one of the key figures behind REC.0, an innovative project showcasing architectural heritage through the temporary installation of pop-up shops in former abandoned tanneries. This project enabled him to forge links with local tanners, discover their craftsmanship and explore the possibilities offered by their materials. In 2015, he launched TORU, a fusion of ideas and sensations transformed into objects.
