Giovanni Valdarno. - In the ‘Hav-A-Havana’ series, which Ramos developed in numerous variations from 1996 onwards, the female nude figure swaps the usual consumer items – such as a bottle of cola, a chocolate bar or a doughnut – for a Havana cigar. The cigar, which has been imbued with the significance of a lust object since Freud, is both a colonial symbol of prestige and a sign of masculinity. Ramos has the nude figure play with it, thereby reversing the conventional roles.
