Description
Anonymous. *Roti-Cochon*. Paris, for the Société des Bibliophiles Français, based on the copy printed in Dijon by Claude Michard, published by Morgand, 1890.
8vo, paperback, printed cover with a patch (paper missing at the top of the spine).
A rare reprint, published on the initiative of the Société des Bibliophiles Français under the chairmanship of Baron Pichon, of this curious culinary lexicon, of which only a single copy of the original late 17th-century Dijon edition is known to exist, held at the Bibliothèque de l’Arsenal.
Printed in a run of just 330 copies on Van Gelder laid paper (including 30 on Holland paper), this edition has itself become quite rare. Intended as a reading primer, this small volume, richly illustrated with woodcuts, transports young readers to a veritable land of plenty, where the vocabulary of cooking and fine dining serves as an educational tool. The book is preceded by a substantial introduction by Georges Vicaire, who highlights its bibliographical and gastronomic significance. (Vicaire gastr., 754–757).
