Vases, trays, tins and decorative objects in hammered metal
Vases, trays, tins and decorative objects in hammered metal.
Antique or vintage decorative objects in hammered metal, repoussé metal, copper, brass, bronze or pewter, often made using traditional copperware or decorative ironwork techniques. The selection includes forged vases, bowls, trays, boxes, voids, jugs, censers, planters and wall objects.
Some of the objects are signed or attributed to historic designers such as Jean Dunand, a major figure in Art Deco and a master of lacquer and hammered metal; Albert Marionnet, known for his decorative bronze objects; and firms active between 1900 and 1950 such as Etling, Christofle (for its silver-plated metal production) and Jules Cayette. There are also pieces influenced by Oriental, Berber and Asian decorative arts, which are highly prized in brassware.
These objects combine decorative function and traditional know-how, with elaborate finishes: antique patinas, hand-engraving, geometric ornamentation or stylised floral motifs. The metal used can be left raw, polished, oxidised or gilded, depending on the desired effect.
Sought after for their hand-crafted aesthetic, their noble materials and their timeless decorative value, these objects find their place in a decorative arts collection, a stylish interior, or a vintage or eclectic universe.
