Monumental encyclopaedia by the agronomist François Rozier (1734-1793), compiling methodically and alphabetically all the agricultural knowledge of the late 18th century: cultivation of cereals, vines and fruit trees, soil improvement, animal husbandry and veterinary care, domestic economics and estate management. It is illustrated with 241 plates showing flowers, plants, animals and agricultural machinery.
The tenth volume, devoted almost entirely to vines and wine, was written by Chaptal, Parmentier, Biot, Thouin and Lasteyrie and published after the author's death.
Without the frontispiece or the two volumes of supplements published in 1805.
[Brunet IV, 1442].
Abbé Rozier was a pioneer in the field of agriculture, notably by developing new agronomic methods to increase yields and encouraging farmers to use chemical fertilisers to improve the soil. His work contributed to the creation of an agricultural movement in France that encouraged innovation and the modernisation of French agriculture.
A very fine copy, well established in its original state.
