General Terms and Conditions of Sale
Sales are on a cash basis and, in addition to the hammer price, buyers shall pay the following fees per lot, without any sliding scale:
30% including VAT for all voluntary sales, or 14.28% including VAT in the case of a judicial sale (specified for each lot).
The applicable VAT rate is 20%, except for books (5.5%); VAT on fees may be refundable upon
submission of supporting documentation, within a maximum of one month.
Payment must be made immediately after the sale, exclusively by bank transfer or credit card, depending on the amounts
and the country of issue of the card. Cash payments are subject to restrictions in accordance with current regulations.
Cheques are not accepted.
The highest bidder and last bidder shall be the buyer, provided that the Auctioneer accepts the final bid by
declaring the lot sold.
The buyer shall only become the owner of the lot once payment has been effectively made. The auction house shall not be held liable
for any period during which the lot is held in storage, as the item is deemed to be under the buyer’s sole responsibility from the moment
the lot is declared sold.
In the event of a tied bid recognised as valid by the Auctioneer and recorded in the minutes, the item shall be put up for sale again,
with all bidders present, bidding live or by telephone, being entitled to participate in this second auction.
Collection of lots may be deferred until payment has been received and confirmed. If you are the successful bidder online, you
authorise the Auctioneer to use your credit card details to process payment, in full or in part, for
your purchases, including any buyer’s premiums. (Please refer to the specific terms and conditions for online bidding)
Pre-sale estimates are provided for guidance only.
The export or import of cultural property may be subject to authorisations, which shall be the sole responsibility
of the buyer. The Auction House may assist the buyer in completing the necessary formalities.
The absence of authorisation or any delay in obtaining it shall not constitute grounds for a request to cancel the sale.
Similarly, restrictions on the export of certain species shall be the sole responsibility of the successful bidder.
Special conditions of sale apply to specialist sales and are available on request.
CONDITION OF LOTS
All lots are sold under the guarantee of the Auctioneer and, where applicable, the expert assisting him, in accordance with the descriptions
given in the catalogue and subject to any corrections announced at the time of the lot’s presentation, as recorded in the
sale minutes.
As these are antique and/or second-hand items, only the most significant defects are mentioned in the descriptions.
Any information provided by the Auction House regarding restoration or damage affecting the lot is
intended to facilitate inspection by the prospective buyer but remains subject to their personal judgement.
Re-lining, re-panelling or lining, which constitute a conservation measure rather than a defect, are not reported.
Dimensions are given for information only.
The absence of any mention of restoration, damage or an incident in no way implies that an item is free from any
current or past defects or repairs. Conversely, the mention of one defect does not imply the absence of another. In any
event, the items are therefore sold ‘as is’ with their imperfections and defects, and no cancellation of the sale
will be permitted on the grounds of routine restoration work, minor damage or a condition that does not conform to the description.
Prospective buyers are therefore invited to examine any lots in which they may be interested prior to the sale, in particular during the
public viewings, and to check that each item corresponds to the description.
