In the 1980s, Ferrari continued to diversify. Families could choose between the 400 GT, a worthy heir to the line of large, front-engined, 4-seater GTs that began with the 250 GT 2+2 in 1960, and the Mondial, a new 2+2, rear-engined saloon designed by Pininfarina, which followed Bertone's 308 GT4.
Convinced of the relevance of a 4-seater GT with a central rear engine, Enzo Ferrari returned to Pininfarina for this architecture, which was part of the policy of democratising the range, necessary for the brand's long-term future.
In 1980, the Ferrari Mondial 8 was presented and marketed, with a 214-horsepower V8 engine in a central rear position. This car would benefit from technical developments over the years. But it was really in 1989 that the Mondial's career underwent a major change, with the launch of the Mondial T at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show. The Mondial T owes its name to the change in its engine layout, which remained rear-central but became longitudinal rather than transverse, while the gearbox was now positioned transversely. This architecture, taken from the future Ferrari 348, like the engine, led to a significant improvement in overall balance and performance.
The Mondial T is powered by a new naturally-aspirated 3.4-litre V8 engine developing 300bhp, combined with a mechanical gearbox. More powerful, more modern and more efficient than its predecessors, it also benefits from significantly improved roadholding and much greater driving pleasure thanks to its piloted suspension and reinforced braking. These profound improvements make the Mondial T version a completely new car.
With its rear mid-mounted V8, mechanical transmission, elegant body designed by Pininfarina and four real seats, it remains a unique proposition in the history of Ferrari.
This latest evolution is unanimously considered to be the best of all the Mondials and is now one of the most endearing and versatile classic Ferraris of its generation. Even more so in a cabriolet version, the Mondial T offers a particularly seductive synthesis of sportiness and grand touring.
The Mondial on offer is a desirable T version in cabriolet bodywork, delivered new in France by Établissements Pozzi and put on the road on 27 June 1990.
In a Rosso Corsa livery with Pella Nera leather interior, matching black soft top and contrasting red carpets to match the bodywork, it benefits from a configuration that is both safe and attractive for a Ferrari.
As well as being French, it has a very good history, having had very few owners, the current one having owned it since 2001, almost 25 years ago, when it was purchased from a Monaco dealer with 13,000 km on the clock and registered in the Principality.
It is this owner who has done most of the mileage, as the car now has just under 106,000 km. Given this mileage and the fact that it has never been restored, it is in an entirely satisfactory state of preservation, although it could be improved, for example by a few bodywork touches.
Mechanically, this Mondial has been well maintained. The complete file of invoices testifies to the care it has received over the years. Among the most recent work carried out on the car, we note the refurbishment of the running gear and underfloor reinforcements, the replacement of the tyres in 2022 and the windscreen in 2026.
It's a car that's ready to drive, but according to the manufacturer's recommendations, the timing belts should be replaced once again, so that you can enjoy it with complete peace of mind.
The car is accompanied by its soft top cover, its complete tool kit, its spare keys, its user manuals in their Schedoni leather pouch and a voluminous file of invoices, as well as a 2025 appraisal report. It is also fitted with a Tubi Style stainless steel exhaust system.
This is a fine example of the Mondial, in its most advanced, pleasant and coveted T version, especially as a cabriolet, but at an attractive price.
