In 1963, Maserati launched the Quattroporte, a four-door grand touring saloon that was to establish itself in this segment and become a tradition inseparable from the firm with the Trident.
Originally designed by Frua, the Quattroporte has always been synonymous with elegance and understated luxury.
The fifth generation of the model was unveiled at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show, this time designed by Pininfarina, and the formula is still very successful, with a design of great elegance, a powertrain that is as brilliant as it is sonorous, and a refined Italian finish. In fact, it was a real success for Maserati, with several thousand cars sold, which attracted a great deal of interest and led to the emergence of new rivals such as the CLS, the Panamera and the Rapide.
In 2008, in order to maintain control of the category it had created, Maserati presented a restyled version of the Quattroporte V. The S model was added to the range, reaffirming the sporty character of the great Italian saloon thanks to a major technical upgrade. It gets the Ferrari-Maserati 4.7-litre naturally-aspirated V8 producing 430 bhp, directly derived from that of the GranTurismo S.
This version also adopts the 6-speed ZF automatic gearbox, which is more modern and pleasant to drive than the old DuoSelect transmission. The chassis has been specially tuned with Skyhook pilot-controlled suspension, offering an excellent compromise between comfort and dynamism. The restyling features a redesigned front end with a concave grille inspired by the GranTurismo and an updated headlamp design, while retaining Pininfarina's elegant lines. With optimised weight distribution and a self-locking differential, the Quattroporte S boasts particularly well-balanced handling for a saloon of its size. The interior combines handcrafted luxury with a sporty ambience, featuring Poltrona Frau leather upholstery, precious wood trim and typical Maserati instrumentation.
The Quattroporte S 4.7 was produced in limited numbers, compared with the German models of the time, and today represents a youngtimer with character, combining elegance, mechanical nobility and genuine driving pleasure.
The 2008 Maserati Quattroporte S is still a youngtimer with character, combining elegance, mechanical nobility and genuine driving pleasure.
The car on offer is one of these restyled fifth-generation S models. It was delivered new on 11 September 2008 by the Intini dealership and put on the road the following day in Luxembourg, before being registered in France in 2021 by its current owner.
It comes in a 'full black' configuration, with a Nero Carbonio paintwork finish combined with a black leather and carpet interior, complemented by red brake callipers.
In addition to its chic, understated and sporty appearance, the Quattroporte comes with a host of optional extras, including an electric sunroof, heated and ventilated massaging front seats, tinted rear windows, a rear window sunblind and homelink.
This Quattroporte has also benefited from regular servicing, as evidenced by the record of maintenance operations carried out in Luxembourg and the service booklet. In recent years, the total cost of servicing, backed up by invoices, has amounted to just over €15,000, including replacement of the ignition box, injectors, spark plugs, servicing, front brake discs and pads, tyres, etc.
Today's Quattroporte S has just under 72,500 km on the clock, is in excellent condition and has a clean MOT. From an aesthetic point of view, only the sticky 'Soft Touch' buttons need to be addressed.
A genuine alternative to the great German prestige saloons, the Quattroporte S seduces with its rarity, its unique temperament and its bewitching sound. Especially when you consider that this is one of the best versions of this family sports car, available to enthusiasts for less than €30,000!
