Description
1962 FACEL VEGA HK II • French classic car registration document • Chassis number: HK2 A176 • Engine: TY8712197 • Fully restored in 2018 by Provost (+ €250,000 in invoices) • Extensive and detailed documentation “The HK500 was the most fascinating car we ever built, but the Facel II was the best. It was the epitome of elegance.” Jean Daninos. Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October 1961, the Facel Vega Facel HK II immediately established itself as the ultimate realisation of Jean Daninos’ vision: to offer the world a French grand tourer capable of rivalling the finest Italian and British models. The direct successor to the HK500, more refined, lighter and more sophisticated, it embodies French luxury and elegance: Connolly leather, precious woods, and instrumentation designed by the Parisian watchmaker Jaeger. With only around 180 examples produced before the brand’s demise in 1964, the Facel II is now one of the most sought-after post-war grand tourers amongst collectors. Under its long bonnet sits the 6.3-litre Chrysler Typhoon TY8 V8, fed by two twin-barrel carburettors and developing 325 bhp, enough to propel the Facel II to nearly 240 km/h, making it, one of the fastest four-seater coupés in the world in the early 1960s. The car on offer was delivered new in 1962 to the Clovis garage, reputed to have served as a test car for the factory. In 1967, it was sold by Chamond Granat to Mr Hubert Souchon. He kept the car for 15 years in Paris, having it serviced regularly, as confirmed by a file of contemporary invoices. In 1982, our Facel Vega was acquired by our collector. He then decided to drive it back to Touraine. It remained untouched for 35 years. In October 2015, a complete restoration began at the Provost workshops in Le Mans. Everything from the chassis down to the smallest fitting was overhauled. The full restoration file, along with an expert report drawn up by Stéphane Bonneron, is available. In February 2018, after two years of work and a cost of €259,000, this HK2 was exhibited at Retromobile. It is now in a condition that makes it a contender for Best of Show at concours d’élégance, and has covered just 1,900 km since its restoration. With only 184 examples produced before the brand ceased production in 1964, it remains to this day one of the last great, entirely French prestige cars. This example has undergone a complete restoration, ensuring it is now presented in a condition befitting the status of this model. A true rarity, destined for an exceptional collector. 1962 FACEL VEGA HK II • French collector’s registration certificate • Serial number: HK2 A176 • Engine: TY8712197 • Fully restored in 2018 by Provost (+ €250,000 in invoices) • Extensive and detailed documentation “The HK500 was the most fascinating car we ever built, but the Facel II was the best.
